Embossed Timber Cladding combines the natural character of timber with deeply textured surface patterns to create a distinctive architectural finish for contemporary residential and commercial projects.
Using advanced embossing technology, each board is passed through a patterned drum that mechanically presses the selected texture into the timber surface. This creates the deep, tactile Charred or Crosscut appearance. The surface of the timber is permanently textured to create greater depth and definition than conventional timber cladding.
Available in Charred and Crosscut appearances, the range provides two distinctly different architectural looks and can be used across both exterior façades and interior feature applications.
Nationwide Timber’s Embossed Cladding range includes two options: Black Ember BAL-29 Australian Hardwood, for a premium pre-finished black appearance, and Boss Board H3 Treated Pine, supplied uncoated for greater flexibility in the final colour and finish.
Black Ember is a premium embossed Australian Hardwood cladding designed to achieve the dramatic appearance and texture associated with traditional charred timber, while providing a consistent and refined architectural finish also making it more weather resistant with less maintenance.
Manufactured from highly durable Blackbutt or Spotted Gum Australian Hardwood, Black Ember is suitable for applications requiring BAL-29 timber when installed in accordance with the relevant building requirements.
The deeply embossed surface enhances the character of the timber and is available in two distinctive appearances:
A heavily textured surface inspired by traditionally charred timber. The pronounced embossing creates variations in depth across the face of the board, producing strong Croc-Charred appearance.
A distinctive cross-sawn inspired texture running across the face of the timber. The embossed markings create a more linear, contemporary appearance while retaining the natural variation and warmth associated with Band Sawn Mill Finish Australian Hardwood.
Black Ember is supplied with its distinctive black finish and one coat of sealer, creating a ready-to-install architectural cladding with a consistent appearance. Its advanced surface treatment with Intergrain Industrial Timber Stain Charred Black which is designed to help preserve the rich black colour and tactile embossed texture over time.
The combination of Australian Hardwood, a bold black finish and highly defined texture makes Black Ember particularly suited to contemporary homes, feature façades, entrances, architectural walls and commercial projects where the timber itself is intended to become a major design element.
Boss Board provides the same concept of deeply embossed architectural timber in a versatile H3-treated Radiata Pine product.
Unlike Black Ember, Boss Board is available uncoated, allowing builders, architects and homeowners to select the coating, stain or colour that best complements the individual project.
The H3-treated Radiata Pine substrate has been developed with long-term durability in mind, while advanced embossing technology creates a highly textured surface that can dramatically change appearance depending on the coating selected.
Nationwide Timber offers Boss Board in two embossed appearances:
Replicates the deep, irregular texture associated with charred timber. Leaving the product uncoated provides the flexibility to create anything from natural and understated finishes through to dark charcoal and black architectural looks.
Creates a distinctive textured surface inspired by cross-sawn timber. The repeated markings across the face introduce detail and character while providing a versatile base for a wide range of architectural finishes.
The two ranges provide different ways of achieving the Embossed Cladding look.
Black Ember is the premium choice for projects seeking a finished black architectural appearance combined with the natural durability and performance of Australian Hardwood. With Blackbutt and Spotted Gum options suitable for BAL-29 applications, it is particularly well suited to premium residential and commercial façades.
Boss Board provides greater freedom over the final appearance. Manufactured from H3-treated Radiata Pine and supplied uncoated, the timber can be finished in a colour or coating selected specifically for the project while retaining the distinctive Charred or Crosscut embossed texture.
This gives architects, builders and homeowners the ability to choose between a premium pre-finished Australian Hardwood solution or a versatile uncoated treated-pine solution, while maintaining the strong texture and architectural character of embossed timber.
Embossed cladding introduces another dimension to timber design. Rather than relying solely on timber colour and grain, the physical texture of the board becomes part of the architectural feature.
The deep surface patterns interact with natural and artificial light throughout the day, creating changing highlights and shadow lines across a façade. This provides depth and visual interest that cannot be achieved with a conventional smooth timber surface.
Suitable for contemporary homes, renovations, architectural builds and commercial projects, Embossed Timber Cladding can be used to create complete façades or as a feature material alongside masonry, concrete, steel, glass and other timber products.
With Black Ember BAL-29 Australian Hardwood and Boss Board H3 Treated Pine, Nationwide Timber offers both premium finished and customisable uncoated options in two distinctive embossed textures.

Click to find the available sizes and gradings for Embossed Cladding.
The feature present or natural discolouration will not dominate its appearance. Features that are permitted still include short narrow gum veins, a limited number and size of past borer activity and small tight knots.
Significantly more character than Select Grade. To some degree this will depend on the features present in a particular species. In one species gum veins may naturally be prevalent while in another there may be few gum veins but past borer activity may be more prevalent. Therefore, this grade can be expected to have greater character than Select Grade, and contain an increased amount of gum vein, past borer activity, tight knots and natural discolouration.
Best referred to as effectively a mix of Standard Grade and Select Grade.
A timber that contains boards with similar features to Medium Feature Standard Grade but where the length of features such as gum veins may be longer and past borer activity may be more frequent. Again, depending on the species, features will vary and in some instances boards meeting high feature grade may only appear moderately featured.
Best referred to as a mixture of Feature Grade and Standard Grade.
This grade contains more than the permissible number of natural features and shorter lengths. Cover Grade will contain miss-machining/manufacturing defaults, and can contain large amounts of gum vein, knot holes and other natural features such as holes.
The Janka Ratings you see on this website refer to how "hard" a timber is. The harder the timber, the higher the rating. So a timber with a rating of 15 is very different in strength to the softest timber we sell, which has a rating of 3.
