ModWood Screw Types & Fasteners – Precision Fixings for Composite Decking

Fastener Types & Applications

305SS Timber Screws (grade 305 stainless steel)

Ideal for installations on timber joists (up to 25 mm deck thickness). Features Type 17 auger tip for efficient drive and tri-lobar shank for clean penetration. Reverse thread prevents mushrooming. Colour-coated heads match board finishes. Available in packs of 100 or 350.

410SS Screws (grade 410 stainless steel)

Designed for steel or aluminium substructures (up to 4 mm thick). Zinc-plated, epoxy coated for corrosion resistance, with #3 drill point and shear-off wings for optimal grip. Matches deck colour for a cohesive look.

316SS Screws (grade 316 stainless steel)

Recommended for high-corrosion zones—e.g. coastal locations, pool surrounds, or heavy salt-air exposure. Offers superior corrosion resistance. Available in 10g × 65 mm size for increased anchorage.

KlevaKlip & SnapLOC Concealed Fixing Systems

SnapLOC Clips

SnapLOC Clips for XTREME GUARD® decking: hidden fastenings that clip deck boards securely with consistent 4 mm side-by-side gaps. Starter boards must be face-screwed using colour-coated screws. Full fixing instructions must be followed to uphold warranty.

KlevaKlip Clips

Nylon concealed fixing system for both 88 mm and 137 mm decking boards. Works with either screw or snap-LOC clip spacing to provide even support and professional finish.

Installation Guidelines & Warranty

Pre-drilling required: pilot holes must exceed screw diameter (minimum 4.8 mm) and be countersunk to prevent board splitting or mushrooming heads.
Maintain minimum clearances: 15 mm from board ends, 20 mm from edges, 2 mm butt gaps between boards, a 4 mm side-by-side gap.
Use low-medium torque, with screw head flush to board surface—avoid overdriving. Adjustable drill recommended; avoid impact drivers.
Screw spacing: double-fix every joist. Do not create seam of butt joins above a single joist.
Corrosion guidance: Use galvanised screws in low-risk zones. Use stainless steel (416, 410, or ideally 316) in coastal or pool environments.
Complying with ModWood’s fixing instructions is mandatory to maintain board warranties.

Exceptional service and communication from the first phone enquiry to the delivery of timber flooring. Jason was knowledgable and was great help in deciding best product for us. Very high delivery fee, truck drivers do not care and will dump materials on nature strip rather than helping to carry onto the front lawns or side of house.When an issue arised with the timber quality of an order they took no responsibility and began ignoring emails after i sited building codes and regulations relating to my issues. All follow up emails have been ignored.Not enough money to sue them over but frustrating enough to make me spread the word to not use these guys again as they refuse responsibility or discussion when dealing with issues.

Today my hubby and I visited Nation Wide Timber. The whole team were extremely warm and friendly. Our house renovations hit a hurdle when our timber delivery (from a different supplier) was not the colour I was expecting. The NWT team went above and beyond for us to find the colour in the Spotted Gum we were after, letting us sort through their range (even though I was told by our original timber supplier no one would let you do that). I bought grey box from nationwide timber. This is my first time buying decking and laying it. Nationwide are a friendly team, easy to deal with and gave me good advice when calculating how much a needed and how to lay it. The price was good and a good quality for the standard range. I love the look of the timber, some really nice colours in there and it matches our house perfectly. The delivery was quick and came with all the small off cuts which I found useful when checking my spacings early on. The timber comes in random lengths, so I had to lay it out first to make sure the joints were staggered. over all, very happy.UPDATE: 8 months later. I let the timber weather. Recently deck prepped it, but then sanded it as i was not happy with some of the patchiness after prepping.Then i oiled using intergrain natural.Really happy with the result.

We picked up a load of wormy chestnut flooring from Aaron this morning and could not be happier with the process from ordering to pickup. Communication was great and the product is wonderful.
